In this article we attempt to answer the question ‘How does Takfirism manifest itself as an ideology?’ After a thorough literature study, we can conclude that Takfirism is a growing phenomenon.
Nevertheless, several researchers examining counterterrorism are little familiar with the concept of ‘Takfir’ and the ideology of Takfirism. This article aims at a better understanding of ‘Takfir’, ‘Takfirism’ and a ‘takfiri’. An interview with a PhD student in Arabic and islamic studies, Attiya Radouane, who has profound knowledge of Takfir and has access to Arabic literature, confirmed our description of Takfirism as being a harmful sectarian threat. Takfirism is an ideology that contains an unlimited ‘license to kill’ and is a possible threat to societies.
