Through the cracks: reclaiming space together: Community based support in practice
People with an internment status and attachment problems, mild intellectual disabilities and/or autism often fall between two stools. Not treatable in psychiatry, not suitable for a VAPH facility. Not (yet) possible to live independently after years of detention and without a support network. Independent living also presents the person and his environment with major challenges, especially if the person redirects his overstimulation to the outside world. And yet there remains hope: longing for peace, being able to be there, being able to be meaningful. The quarter-making caregiver sets to work with these starting points. In 2021 Voluit chose to guide a number of clients based on this vision. Looking together for more space between those two stools, by trial and error. Towards a supportive environment and intersectoral cooperating organizations. From the context of emotional development and presence. In this article we describe what quarter making assistance already meant for us in practice.
