In the following pages I will try to present what the future European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO hereinafter) may look like, taking as a basis article 86 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU hereinafter), as well as some of the discussions and reflections that have taken place on this topic, taking as my main source the preparatory works carried out by the Spanish General Prosecutor’s Office,1 in which I have had the opportunity to be involved. In particular, I would also like to explain why I believe the establishment of the EPPO makes perfect sense from various perspectives, including the increasing need for a substantive EU criminal law.
