Violence risk assessment in ethnic minorities in Dutch forensic psychiatry
The literature on violence risk assessment in ethnic minorities in Dutch forensic psychiatry is scarce. It is unclear whether violence risk assessment tools are useful in ethnic minorities. In this article we discuss the importance of such research. International research shows that risk factors for violent behaviour and/or predictive validity of risk assessment tools can differ between ethnic groups, although findings are mixed and further research on this topic is necessary. In this study a culturally mixed patient sample from a Dutch forensic psychiatric hospital is described to illustrate difficulties in setting up this research. The article ends with recommendations to overcome these problems.
